For a more effective training, I teach only one-on-one classes

Programs:
10 months, September 1 - June 30
Sessions:
2 hours minimum (based on the length of a chess game which is normally 2 hours per player).
Hours: M-F 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM or 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Missed Lessons:
Missed lessons by the instructor will be made up or a refund will be issued.
Missed lessons by the students will be made up only if the schedule permits.
Cancelling lessons:
One month notice is required by the student / parent.
Rates:
Comparable to music lessons rates, depending on chess level, age, goals, and commitment.
Payments:
10 post-dated cheques, payable on the first of each month.
Registration fee:
Please understand that by registering for my lessons you are reserving my time, so there is a $50 registration fee per program, refundable at the end of the program. Therefore, the first cheque will be $50 more and the last cheque will be $50 less.
Free Assessment:
As I offer One-on-One customized training, there is no free assessment.

My roles as a trainer

Training procedure
First, I find out student's style and needs: the student provides the content of the training sessions.
Second, I analyze the student's style and needs; then, I prepare in advance, collect information on the student's needs.
Finally, I facilitate student input through authentic practice; I use a variety of techniques that focus on the functions the student needs competence in and variety of resources, especially authentic resources.
A formal training plan
Warm-up:
Play 5 min game, ask student to replay the game and give feedback
Presentation:
Short and sharp, check student understanding: concept questions, have student repeat and drill
Practice:
Controlled practice - activities: Drills Q & A
Less Controlled practice - more student creativity and independence, more student input
Production
Freer practice:
Fluency situation where student use whole store of knowledge including newly presented material; student given the opportunity to deal with the unpredictable (independence and self-expression); activities: problem solving, discussions, simulations, information gaps, projects.

Homework:
Student is required to bring at least one of his recent tournament games with his/her comments about the tournament, opponent, and the moves of the game.
